About
Dateline: 13 September 2007 / Durham, NC
Howdy. I’m Ben, a senior developer for Viget Labs, a full-service web development consultancy based in Northern Virginia (with a branch office in the process of opening in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area of NC).
We do the vast majority of our custom development in Ruby on Rails, though we still do some (mostly maintenance) work in PHP. I do some usability & standards evangelism, and we’re a pretty Agile shop, so you could see any or all of that reflected in posts out front.
I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m a huge fan of Rails - I’m a contributor, and was fortunate enough to be both one of the winners of Hackfest 2007 and have spoken at a couple of Ruby and Rails conferences. I think Rails has one of the most vibrant communities around, and I’m happy to be part of it.
When not working, I spend time with my wife Lacie (see our way-outdated wedding site - one of these days I’ll get around to revising it to reflect the fact that we’re married now) and I read. A lot. I generally have five or six books going at a time, and I’ve been known to finish largeish volumes in mere hours when I really get into ‘em (which annoys the wife to no end). Occasionally, I’ll comment on something I’ve read in addition to all the tech/web and running talk.
So stick around, put your feet up, and read a bit. There’s something here for almost everyone (especially when you throw in all the just-out-there random stuff I talk about). Go and find something fun ![]()
