More Resourcefulness
January 15, 2008 – 2:30 pmOver the last several weeks, I’ve been talking about Sandstone. We do have other resourceful plugins in the works, though. Currently, the only one publicly available is Clinton Nixon’s Bloget, which addresses the problem of adding blogging functionality to an existing application. Like Sandstone, Bloget is open-source, so feel free to grab it from http://svn.extendviget.com/lab/trunk/plugins/bloget and take it for a spin - and most of all, provide feedback! We love bug reports, feature requests, and patches!
On the horizon, though, we’re also working on a plugin that handles authentication and activation - it’ll be a drop-in replacement for restful_authentication, which isn’t actually completely RESTful. In addition to replacing the venerable restful_authentication, however, this plugin will also give you the common beta signup scenario for free. Upon activating that part of the code, users will be able to leave their email addresses on a page, and administrators can review those email addresses and invite specific individuals to create accounts. I’m hoping to get an early version of this out in the next week or so.
Further out, I’d love to see a resourceful version of a bulletin board. Beast is great, but - again - it’s a distinct application, and the goal is to be able to add distinct functionality to an existing app without having to run a separate site.
Is there something that you’d love to see made resourceful? Let us know - or start building it yourself!

Ooooo!
Sign me up for that restful_authentication replacement!!
Our project does need a beta run and that replacement sounds nothing short of awesome.

Great! Like I said, I’m aiming for a release this week - if you’d like, I can drop you an email when it’s available.
