Back from RailsConf, and slowly recovering from four days of Rails-filled goodness. The sessions were pretty uneven, but the people were fantastic. My impressions of Portland, I’m sad to say, weren’t as good - I’m sure there’s plenty of goodness to be found there, but the conference kept us so busy that I wasn’t able to explore as much as I’d like. I did have dinner at a fantastic Thai place, though, so there’s that.

The talk went pretty well, I think, and I was encouraged by several people who came up and talked to me afterwards - it looks like what we’ve hit on is a good solution that other people are exploring, too.

There was some ugliness at the conference - the creepiness of rubychicks and the meanness of some of the IRC backchat foremost among it - but all in all, I think it was a really valuable experience.

In related news: Rails changes really fast. I’m aware of that, so I was updating the slides the very morning of the session. Even so, I missed something - the current Edge Rails already incorporates one change that the latest version of the plugin asks you to do when you install it.

At some point, the session key setting was moved out of ApplicationController and into environment.rb - so for anyone trying to find it to move it, you don’t have to worry about that anymore.

Also, for anyone wondering why the framework isn’t running well on their installed gems - it should run fine on any version of edge after rev 6492, and we’re working on getting it running on Rails 1.2 by the end of this weekend. The joys of alpha, eh?
