House thinking

October 27, 2006 – 6:02 pm

The house Lacie and I live in now is small, and it was sort of forced upon us (long story). We’ve got big plans for the next house we live in, though.

I only care about two rooms: the kitchen and the library (we will have a library). I’ve got definite ideas about things I want in each of those rooms.

In today’s New York Times, however, there’s an article about a growing trend regarding a third room I might just care about. Take a look (registration required).

  2. Now Ben, what would you be using that little hidden room for now, huh?

  3. I’d love to have a library in there - to be able to tuck myself away into a secret room, drop into a comfortable chair, and read for an hour or a day… that’d be the life.

More practically, it might also be useful for a home office. The secretiveness of it could help enforce a sense of separation from the rest of the house, which helps me get things done with a minimum of distraction.
