I’m it
August 1, 2005 – 7:15 pmApril-Anne just tagged me and a couple of others with a running meme - and by the laws of the web, I’m duty-bound to respond. Here goes:
(On a sidenote, I’m going to try some new XHTML markup for this list - it may look funky for a while as I play with the styling.)
- What are you training for now?
- I’m registered for the Richmond Marathon on November 12th - only 15 weeks away! I may be running other events between now and then as part of my training, but that’s the ultimate goal.
- If you are raising money for a cause, what is it and why is that cause important to you?
- Nope, not raising money. I’ve never been much of a joiner (though I’m sure that if my wife ran she’d be way into the Team in Training-type of group).
- What is the furthest distance you’ve run in your training and what is the furthest distance you will run before your event?
- The furthest I’ve run so far has been yesterday’s 8-miler (how humbling!). My schedule has two 20-milers prior to the marathon itself.
- What is your favorite flavor of gu? (or other sports gel)
- Never tried the gu or sports gels. I’m going to be looking at ‘em soon, though, as my long runs increase in distance.
- How many days a week do you run?
- Four or five, as time allows.
- Are you injured in any way right now? If so, what are you doing about it?
- Nope, thankfully.
- What is one item of running clothing/gear (shoes don’t count) you can’t run without?
- If I’d been asked a few months ago, I would’ve said my iPod. I’ve been working on that dependence lately, though, by doing some of my mid-week runs iPod-less. Now, it’s my heart rate monitor.
- Do you have a talisman you are planning on taking to your event? If so, tell us!
- Nope, and I probably won’t find one - I’m not terribly superstitious.
- Share one thing about yourself we don’t know.
- Golly, I dunno. I’ve not been talking much about my reading habits on the blog lately, so maybe that’ll count. In 2003 and 2004, I read somewhere over 300 books. I stopped keeping track this year, but I’m pretty sure I’m at around 80 or so for 2005 so far. I read quickly and widely, in biology, philosophy, psychology, information technology, modern fiction, young adult literature. Heck, lately I’ve even been reading business-type books (which I never thought I’d do). I read the latest Harry Potter novel in about six hours, though I would’ve been done a bit sooner if I’d been able to sit down with it uninterrupted (darn Muddy Buddy!)
And now I have to tag others… but it looks like everyone I read regularly has already been tagged. I think I’ll just enjoy reading others’ responses for now.

let us know how the gu/gel trials go. I don’t use gu or gel but I know I should probably start looking into it soon.

Will do. I’m thinking I might start trying them next week - I went with gummi bears for my long run today and didn’t much like ‘em.
