Runs from heck

I don’t know, but there’s something about running here that has just killed me the last two times out - and one of ‘em was on a treadmill.

I ran 4 miles on the hotel treadmill on Thursday and just about died (or so it felt). Not being one to learn quickly from my mistakes, I went out on the roads for my 6-miler this morning. I didn’t think it’d be tough, given that the route I was taking was mostlye flat… but about a mile and a half in, I started suffering in a major way. After two and a half miles, I stopped at a drugstore to grab some water, then turned around and ran back towards the hotel. After a mile and a half of that, I’d had just about enough and walked the rest of the way, feeling like complete crap the whole time.

And to make matters worse, as I climbed the hill into the hotel parking lot, my calf cramped up. I’m guessing some combination of dehydration and suboptimal eating over the last few days (darn vacation food) combined to make this my Worst Run Ever, but I won’t be sure until next week. I’m taking tomorrow off (and flying home), and will see what I can see with a run on the W&OD trail at home on Monday. Hopefully that’ll take the bad taste out of my mouth from the last two efforts.

It’s runs like that which make us appreciate the good days, right? Safe travels home.
