Fray and the Whedon future
June 10, 2005 – 9:23 pmI just finished reading Joss Whedon’s Fray - a graphic novel from Dark Horse Comics about a future Slayer. I really enjoyed seeing this second Jossian vision of the future (the first being Firefly, of course), and I was inordinately pleased at the bits both imaginings shared - the use of the word ‘rutting’ as a curse, some of the rhythms of the dialogue (some conversations in Fray sounded surprisingly Western), the distinct separation of the haves and have-nots (Alliance/uppers vs. our protagonists). I’ve been a huge Whedon fan since the first season of Buffy, but even Buffy and Angel don’t compare to Joss’s future for sheer engagement.
If you’re a Joss fan, do yourself a favor and check Fray out - it’s definitely worth a look.
