The big update
May 30, 2005 – 11:02 pmLots has happened since last I posted regularly to either of my blogs. Heck, it’s been almost four months. Consider this post a brief update on things that’ve gone on. I hope to return to some of these topics in posts to come:
- The new job is going great. I’m learning new things, and I’m really enjoying working as part of a small, fast-moving company (we’re still small despite hiring two more people since I came on board).
- Two of mine and Lacie’s friends got married (just last Sunday, as a matter of fact). The groom’s bachelor party was held several weeks ago - we went camping and whitewater rafting in West Virginia. No banjos, though there was some fear going ’round (we capsized in a class 4 rapid). Fun was had by all.
- I’ve read some remarkable, inspirational books (including Mastery, by George Leonard).
- I’ve started (finally) playing with Ruby on Rails.
- I’ve continued to refine how I implement David Allen’s Getting Things Done methodology in my life.
- I’m involved in an effort to standardize the development process in place at work, and am trying to bring as much agility to it as I can.
- I’ve discovered the joys of Joss Whedon’s Firefly - the best western in space ever written (and easily the best television series ever cancelled before its time). Can’t wait for Serenity.
- I’m running again… and I’ve registered for the Richmond Marathon in November. Nothing like a goal to focus one’s efforts, right? Right?
So… that should provide some fodder for the days and weeks to come. Stay tuned to see how it all turns out.

Glad to see you’re back, Ben! And glad things are going your way, too!
Congrats on committing to the Richmond Marathon. I keep thinking and rethinking my choices for this fall and Richmond keeps popping up in my mind but then again, I feel as if I should try another marathon for my second go round. We’ll see. Good luck with training! I look forward to hearing about it.

Thanks, Rebecca - it’s good to be back. I was really missing running and the RBF, so I knew it’d be only a matter of time til I was back.
C’mon, run the Richmond again! It’ll be fun
