OK, I’ve had it. Even with the scant posting this blog has seen lately, the comment spam I’ve been getting over the past two weeks has been absurd. In an undoubtedly vain effort to deal with it, I’ve upgraded my Movable Type plugins (welcome back, MT-Blacklist! and welcome for the first time, Nofollow!). Hopefully these’ll help out enough that I’ll be able to turn off comment moderation and I’ll be able to let actual reader comments be posted without my explicit approval, which has been the strategy I’ve used up to now.

knock on wood…but I have never had blog comment spam! I’m sure it is annoying but hopefully your new strategy will be successful! (I’m glad your knee is better!) So…any running of late?
I have been getting about 75 - 100 spam comments per day lately! I used MT_Blacklist for a while but it was impossible to keep up. Someday I will get motivated and upgrade to the MT 3.0 which will allow me to approve all comments. I have not been able to use the MT plugin for some time now. My browser never seems to get to the plug-in.
Good luck. I feel for ya…
Our blog host - completerunning.com put the number control thingy on our comments. It seems to help with Spam Comments. I used to get them before that was put in place.
For what it’s worth, I use WordPress and their latest 1.5 release has done wonders for keeping off comment spam, and that’s without any extra plugins. Though there are several very nice plugins for that purpose, if you need more heavy-duty protection.
