Pressure

The wedding stuff is really starting to pile up now; I didn’t get a chance to run today, but I’m very much looking forward to getting out tomorrow (hopefully in the morning, but at this point I’ll take anything). It’s not so much that I’m stressed out - it’s just that there’s a lot of little stuff left to do, and it’s darn annoying. For instance, I just finished spending a couple of hours prepping and printing out placecards for the reception. Well, only eight days and change left - and then it’s a week til the honeymoon.

(Speaking of, does anyone have any advice on finding places to run in a foreign country? Specifically, in Italy… :)

Ask the concierge - they almost always know.

Congratulations, by the way - I’m a relative newcomer to your blog, so I missed the buildup, but that’s really great. And its wonderful that you’re going to run on the honeymoon as well. I did five laps of Central Park on mine - at the time, that was a personal best distance, too. My wife was remarkably understanding when I told her that that was something that I wanted to go do while we were in NYC (she’s not a runner).

As for the wedding stuff - some free, unwanted advice - come the day of, make sure that you designate someone else to be the go-to person. Don’t answer any last-minute reception questions, don’t ask any questions about how its going, just show up and have a fantastic time!

I think running is a great stress reliever. A way to get away and focus again. Perhaps that’ll be true for you too… you should take the time from all the fiddlin’ details.

On the honeymoon though, well, I’d always been under the impression that you’re supposed to get other forms of exercise. Ahem.

Best wishes again, Ben, in case I don’t get back to you before the big day. I’m sure everything will go according to plan. Enjoy the runs in Europe. We’ll look forward to the reports:)

Thanks, everyone, for the kind wishes and the good advice (I’ll have to practice my Italian for “Where can I go to run?” - “Dove posso andare di correre?”) I figure I’ll be able to work in a few miles every morning while Lacie’s asleep, as she likes to wake up much later than I do.

Taking the forerunner? That could solve at least part of the problem…

Yep, I’m planning on having my little buddy help out with while I’m overseas. But you’re right - it’s only a partial solution. I still have to find where to run, even if I will know how far I run and how to get back once I’m done.
