Running with the Garmin Forerunner

Monday, August 16th, 2004

(in the spirit of “Running with the iPod“)

So I’ve had my Garmin Forerunner 201 for just about three weeks now, and I’ve had sufficient time to develop some impressions about it. In this post, I’ll talk a little bit about how the Garmin works, how I’ve used it, and the results I’ve seen. My goal with this is to provide just a little bit more information to anyone out there thinking of getting one (it’s always best to be as informed as possible, after all).

Delay

Sunday, August 15th, 2004

Sorry, everybody, but the Garmin post will be delayed til tomorrow - it’s been a hectic day (an hour of squash this morning (which I won, yay!), followed by helping a friend just back in from Afghanistan pick up some of his stuff), so I haven’t been able to finish up the post quite yet.

No run - just squash. Well, I guess I could count the seemingly endless sprints from squash as a run, but I wasn’t really keeping track of how far or how long each one lasted….

Rain’s a-comin’

Saturday, August 14th, 2004

As Susan mentioned, running today was a tricky business - those of us here in VA had to deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Charlie, which consisted mostly of heavy rains and wind.

Since I’m in northern Virginia, I was lucky; I got in my five miles and change well before the rain started this afternoon. I was more than happy to take advantage of the cool weather, though, which meant that my run today ended up feeling really, really good.

And (since I’ve ridden out hurricanes before), I’d like to send my best wishes to anyone reading from Florida or other hurricane-hit areas…

Blogroll

Friday, August 13th, 2004

Just a quick note to say that I’ve trimmed and reordered my blogroll - some links that hadn’t been updated for a while are gone, some new ones have been added (Hi Lafes and Jank), and the whole darn thing is now alphabetized (yay for alphabetization!) Have a great day, everybody!

Using his powers for good

Thursday, August 12th, 2004

Scrivs is up to something new - basically, he’s offered to open up his traffic spigot (good, underutilized word, that) to 20 user-submitted blogs. If you’ve an itch to be exposed to more readers, go forth and advertise*.

* Of course, there’s no guarantee that a Scrivs-review will result in more long term readers for your site; it takes work to produce high-quality content on a semi-regular basis (I should know; I’ve failed to do it in numerous contexts for years now). This might just help someone get their foot in the door, though, and get someone over that hump into the category of the rich. You know, the ones who keep getting richer?
