Unsatisfying

July 30, 2004 – 8:11 am

Today was … interesting. I decided that, given my difficult and unsatisfying run from Wednesday, I mix things up a little today. To that end, I set out this morning for a four-miler - without my iPod! I also decided to take a route I hadn’t tried for well over a month, just to be that much more different.

Long story short, the changes didn’t work. I only managed a little over 3.2 miles today before I had to stop, and I’m still not sure what’s up with that. I also spent the entire run thinking about unfortunate events (and not the fun sort one might encounter in a Lemony Snicket book). I did, however, learn a little more about my Garmin, so the much-ballyhooed post about that should be that much more informative (yay for not-a-complete-loss runs!). Anyways, now that I’ve vented, it’s about time to head to work. Hope everybody else’s runs are better than mine was today.

Grumble grumble.

  2. What’s feeling hard about the run? Breathing? Legs feeling tired? Brain too distracted?

Remember, fuel, hydration and weather can all have an impact (and I know you know this!). And the brain can really get in the way sometimes. So eat, drink, rest, stay cool and keep trying new tactics…you’ll get over the hump. I promise. (Don’t you have a wedding coming up soon?)

And, as an interesting OT side-note: “Lemony Snicket” just happens to be an alum of the college where I work! =)

  3. That’s the thing - I just can’t quite put my finger on the problem, either during the run or on reflection. I’ll keep experimenting, though (I’m trying a new trail tomorrow that I’m really excited about), so here’s hoping :) And yep, I’ve got a wedding approaching at about 100 mph - the date is August 28th.

    Daniel Handler? Nifty!

  4. I know what you mean. That’s what you get for going on your run w/o the iPod…. hehehe..just kidding. I used to run with my mp3 player all the time and when the battery would suddenly go dead, it was like the end of the world! But now I mix things up and I run without it as often as I do with it just so I could stop relying on it so much. But to be honest, I think I run better with it. Probably because I don’t find myself that interesting and so my reflections are really boring. Just a thought.
