Good day

Saturday, July 31st, 2004

Not much to report, today - what there is, however, is good: I did 3 miles at around 8:45/mile today. The run felt good (for a change), and I’m slowly getting used to the Garmin’s eccentricities. For now, though, it’s about time to hit the sack. ‘Night, all.

Unsatisfying

Friday, July 30th, 2004

Today was … interesting. I decided that, given my difficult and unsatisfying run from Wednesday, I mix things up a little today. To that end, I set out this morning for a four-miler - without my iPod! I also decided to take a route I hadn’t tried for well over a month, just to be that much more different.

Long story short, the changes didn’t work. I only managed a little over 3.2 miles today before I had to stop, and I’m still not sure what’s up with that. I also spent the entire run thinking about unfortunate events (and not the fun sort one might encounter in a Lemony Snicket book). I did, however, learn a little more about my Garmin, so the much-ballyhooed post about that should be that much more informative (yay for not-a-complete-loss runs!). Anyways, now that I’ve vented, it’s about time to head to work. Hope everybody else’s runs are better than mine was today.

Grumble grumble.

Do your duty

Hey, you - yeah, you with the running blog. Zip over to Dianna’s place and add your comments to the pile on this post. She’s got a super-secret project in the works, and wouldn’t you feel bad if everybody else contributed and you didn’t?

Working from home

Wednesday, July 28th, 2004

One of the many benefits of working from home (something I do every once in a long while) is that I can go for a run at any point during the day - not just in the wee small hours of the morning or in the waning hours of the afternoon. It’s a handy benefit that I took advantage of today.

According to my trusty new Garmin, I ran 3.69 miles in 32:19 - for an average pace of 8:45/mile. I’m not sure I should be applying the epithet ‘trusty’, however, as I saw a lot of lost signals today while running under a slightly more wooded route than I tried yesterday.

Other than that, today’s run was hard. I dunno what was up, but it felt like I was dragging from start to finish.

Fun!

Did 3.02 miles (check the precision, w00t!) this morning - I think I’m going to like the Garmin, though I can tell it’ll take a little getting used to. I got a few “weak GPS signal” notices at the start of the run, but by the end everything was fine. If people are interested, I’ll do a writeup on it in a week or so - something along the lines of my Running with the iPod post.
