Pain

Monday, September 29th, 2003

I’ve spent the last several days in near constant pain from migraines - either my drugs aren’t working as well or the headaches themselves have become significantly worse. I’m leaning towards the latter as an explanation, especially given the increased headache-provoking situations I’ve been in lately (stress over my car in the shop, the impending proposal, being surround by people who talk ALL THE TIME at FULL VOLUME while at work, feeling the beginnings of *tilt* mode at the office and at home…)

I need to just -calm down- and take one thing at a time. At the moment however, it all seems like it’s crashing down simultaneously. That makes serialization considerably more difficult.

And now we bring you

Charles Kuffner of Off the Kuff discusses the newest snafu in the National Do-Not-Call list:
Court hangs up do-not-call again.

Personally, I’d be more than happy to have the national list prevent charitable solicitations as well as commercial ones; in my view, the point of the list is not to screen out the telemarketers, but to protect the privacy of the home.

Add in that some telemarketers are now calling cell phones (or that people who’ve gone wireless get all calls on their cells, wanted or not), and it just gets worse. This isn’t a free-speech issue - if anything, it’s a forced-to-listen issue, which (last time I checked) wasn’t a provision in the good ol’ Constitution.

Made it!

So Isabel’s passed us by, and we’re still kicking. As storms go, it wasn’t too bad - it had dropped to tropical storm strength (winds under 75 mph) by the time it made it to DC, and as far as I know the strongest gusts we experienced were slower than 50 mph. Hugo and Fran were both significantly worse than that, if I remember correctly.

We lost power around 6 last night, and it just returned about 2 hours ago… Work shut down early yesterday and was entirely cancelled today due to power and water issues. Other than that, not a whole lot going on - I’m just overjoyed to be back in the modern world of electricity. Hurray!

No post yesterday?

Thursday, September 18th, 2003

Yep, I failed to post yesterday. Not an infrequent occurrence, really, but this time I had a good reason… Lacie and I spent yesterday after work at an Intro to Judaism class (requirement for a partircular rabbi to marry us) and prepping for Isabel.

Everything’s locked up, we’ve got food, we’re good to go. Now all I need is The Doors playing in the background, and I’m all set.

The Atlas

Tuesday, September 16th, 2003

Priority A #1 for non-work and school related things: finish the Atlas from a content standpoint. There’s still a good bit I’d like to do from the UI and design side, but I’ve let the entries languish half-completed for too long now.
